For students
A student visa allows for a stay in Spain for more than 90 days to pursue or continue education at an accredited educational institution with a full program leading to a degree or educational certificate. In certain cases, it is possible to obtain permission to work. Family members can also apply for staying in Spain.
This status is not considered a residence permit.
Where can you study?
- Language schools accredited by the Cervantes Institute.
- Public, private, and semi-private schools (with partial government funding).
- Educational institutions authorized to provide professional education.
- Universities in Spain.
Conditions for obtaining this permit include
- Not be a citizen of a European Union, European Economic Area, or Swiss state, or a relative of citizens of these countries.
- Not be among individuals prohibited from entering the territory of countries with which Spain
has corresponding agreements. - When applying for a residence permit in Spain, it is necessary to be on legal grounds within Spanish territory and submit the application no later than one month before the expiration of the current status.
- Have sufficient financial means to cover living expenses in the country, a return ticket to one´s home country, and, if necessary, the expenses of family members.
- Have state or private health insurance contracted with an authorized insurer in Spain.
- In the case of underage students arriving without the company of parents or guardians,
permission from them is required, specifying the center, organization, institution, or authority
responsible for the program and the intended period of stay. - Be accepted into an educational institution authorized in Spain to conduct a full program
leading to the attainment of a degree or educational certificate.
If the duration of stay exceeds six months, it is required to:
- For adults – No criminal record in Spain and in countries of previous residence for the last five years for offenses under Spanish law.
- Not suffer from any diseases that may have serious consequences for public health according to the provisions of the International Health Regulations 2005.
